PHS Academies

Parents of Piscataway Township Eighth Grade Students:

Does your child get excited about Science or Engineering activities? Do they spend hours practicing their Visual or Performing Arts skills?  Are they directly involved with these types of extracurricular activities and express desires to explore similar careers?

Well, I am excited to announce the continuation of four educational academies at Piscataway High School beginning in the fall of 2019 and the introduction of a new Piscataway High School Academy, Pre-Law and Justice.  Our four year academies include:

PHS Biomedical Science Academy                             PHS Performing Arts Academy

PHS Engineering Academy                                         PHS Visual Arts Academy

PHS Pre-Law and Justice Academy

PHS Academies offer focused curricula targeted to specific career paths. At PHS, academies act as “schools within a school,” emphasizing specialized content areas while simultaneously offering the depth and breadth of a larger high school experience. Students enrolled in the PHS Academies will meet all their New Jersey State graduation requirements and have the opportunity to participate in all PHS athletics, arts, clubs, and activities. They also have opportunities to take other electives outside their academy (if their schedule permits). Acceptance into one of the five academies will expose students to concentrated instruction and pathways to the next steps in their college and career goals. Admission is competitive with selection based on various pre-requisites established for each academy.

We will be presenting this information this week at each middle school to your 8th grade student.  They will come home with a packet that includes five brochures which outline and highlight each academy. Included in each brochure is the course offering, completion requirements, and other specific information.

A PHS Academy informational session will be held on Thursday, October 11, 2018, at 6:30 PM in the PHS PAC.  This will be an academy information session; you will be given all the application details, requirements, and process for each academy. If this optional meeting does not fit into your schedule, please feel free to contact your middle school counseling office for further details.

We look forward to seeing you at our information sessions.

Sincerely,

Theresa Edmondson
