Conackamack 8th-graders create service project to help classmates cope

Congratulations to four Conackamack Middle School eighth-graders who created a community service project to help their fellow students cope with tough times!

Krystal Corral, Giulia DeSantis, Erika Onyeani, and Lily Rydzy are working on a 50-hour service project to earn their Silver Award for Girl Scouts Troop 81096. Together these girls created “Mindful Smiles,” which aims to help kids who are feeling stressed or overwhelmed during the school day by providing them with “Smiley Kits” to assist with coping.

Each Smiley Kit they create includes fidgets, texture strips, and coping/breathing techniques for emotional support. They have provided over 30 kits to classrooms around Conackamack for children to request and use during class.

The girls are proud of how their service project has gotten off the ground and are happy to support their school and community.
