An idea that started off as a way to inject some fun into the end of the school year has become the heart of the hallways at Conackamack Middle School!

“Stoop Talk” is a new fake podcast conceived by media technology teacher Erin Torres and music teacher Amanda Jago, where students stop by to chat and answer questions such as, “Is a hotdog a sandwich?” or “Do you put your milk or cereal in the bowl first?”

Mrs. Torres and Ms. Jago created the stoop as a way to add some fun to the end of the year, but it has turned into something bigger. The stoop has brought faculty and students together as people stop by to laugh, talk through problems, introduce new prompts, share new hot takes, and check in with each other.

Visitors stop by for Tell-A-Joke Tuesdays, Would-You-Rather Wednesdays, Trivia Thursdays, Dance-It-Out Fridays, and more.

Just as the idea of a neighborhood stoop has always been a place to gather and build community, Conackamack’s stoop is there for all who need an ear or a smile throughout the school day.

Moving forward, students in Mrs. Torres’ class will learn to take the lead on “Stoop Talk.” They will use the stoop to become more comfortable with recording, interviewing, and creating their own podcast projects.
